We use various construction technologies for our TEXAPORE fabrics, from membranes and coatings to hybrid constructions and laminate linings. This enables us to address the specific levels of breathability and waterproofness that various outdoor activities require.
The weather protection layer is combined with a face (outer) fabric, which determines the additional characteristics, e.g. durability, texture and weight. As a rule, this is a 2 layer construction (face fabric + weather protection layer). In the 2.5 and 3 layer versions, a special layer or lining protects the weather protection layer; this is laminated to the weather protection layer and the face fabric.
Jackets and trousers with a double-layered construction are equipped with a loose lining. This means that they are slightly heavier and don’t pack down quite as small as triple-layered products. In double-layered TEXAPORE materials, the coating or membrane is permanently bound to the woven shell (support material).
Activities: day trips, weekend trips
TEXAPORE-Examples:
In 2.5-layered TEXAPORE materials, the coating or membrane is permanently bound to the woven shell (support material) and is covered with an ultra-thin protective layer on the inside, meaning there is no need for a separate lining. 2.5-layered materials make extremely lightweight clothing with a very small pack size, but are also less hard-wearing than double-layered and triple-layered materials.
Activities: biking, trail running, etc.
TEXAPORE-Examples:
The three components of triple-layered TEXAPORE materials are the shell, lining and the waterproof, breathable TEXAPORE membrane in between. All three layers are permanently bound to one another. Since the membrane is protected from either side by either a woven or a knitted material, this combination is very hard-wearing, yet still relatively lightweight and packs down small – perfect for trekking and mountain tours.
Activities: treks of several days, alpine hiking
TEXAPORE is also used in the form of a waterproof and breathable liner. The advantage here lies in the fact that only the seams of the liner itself need to be sealed, which allows greater freedom in the design and cut of the garment and gives the face fabric a more casual and flowing drape.
There are two versions of TEXAPORE lining:
TEXAPORE SOFTSHELL
TEXAPORE AIR represents a quantum leap in wear comfort for weatherproof shell clothing. Instead of hermetic (airtight) waterproofing, the fabric works like a filter: it keeps rain out, but allows air in. The result is a combination of perfect weather protection and dynamic breathability, with an MVTR that increases the more active you are. In other words, it works as hard as you play.
TEXAPORE HYPROOF O3 takes weather protection to a new level. This remarkable shell fabric can withstand a water column pressure of 40 metres and has an MVTR of 30,000 g/m²/24 h (that's an amazing 3 litres of moisture vapour per hour over the whole jacket!). These incredible values guarantee that your jacket will keep you dry whatever the weather, even after years of use in the toughest conditions.
TEXAPORE SMOOTHLIGHT is the smoother face of weatherproof shell clothing. The fabric is soft and supple, and less prone to rustling - a real plus in terms of wear comfort. It also boasts a seriously impressive weatherproof spec, with reliable protection from the wind and rain, excellent breathability and durability.
This waterproof softshell sets new standards for 2013. Our latest new fabric development is called TEXAPORE O3 SMOOTHLIGHT SOFTSHELL and it combines the attributes of a waterproof shell with the climate and wear comfort of a softshell. On the HIGH VOLTAGE alpine jacket we have equipped this lightweight, windproof and waterproof 3-layer laminate with a reverse side consisting of a comfortable Jersey fabric, of a type commonly found in functional shirts. A specially developed seam sealing tape allows the jacket seams to be tape sealed inside as normal. The result: the HIGH VOLTAGE delivers an impressive waterproof specification (20,000 mm hydrostatic head) and exceptional breathability performance (MVTR: 30,000 g/m2/24 h)
This new triple-layer laminate trekking jacket is more than a match for weather and wear and tear. The GRANITE has everything you would expect from a top-notch trekking jacket - and more. We have used the triple-layer laminate TEXAPORE HYPROOF O3 TASGRID as the main fabric. It offers the highest combined levels of waterproofness and breathability of any TEXAPORE fabric currently available. When you are far from civilisation, you will certainly appreciate the levels of protection and climate comfort. Critical wear points are reinforced with an ultra-tough 3-layer laminate. This combination of fabrics makes the jacket very hard-wearing although it only weighs 570 gm in size L (our lightest men’s trekking jacket).
The jacket that goes to extremes. The SCANDIUM alpine shell delivers the highest combined values for waterproofness and breathability currently achievable with our TEXAPORE fabrics: a hydrostatic head of 40,000 mm minimum and a moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) of 30,000 g/m2/24h. The 3-layer TEXAPORE HYPROOF O3 TASGRID laminate is not only extremely waterproof and exceptionally breathable; it is also more supple than other 3-layer fabrics and very light.
The tougher the challenge, the better it performs - meet the new CIRRUS JACKET! It is tailored from our most breathable and lightest weather protection fabric - triple layer TEXAPORE 04 FLYGRID. This latest development in TEXAPORE technology manages to combine ultimate breathability with lightest possible weight and high levels of waterproofness (20,000 mm hydrostatic head) with adequate durability. The finely woven backing fabric protects the membrane and increases the comfort when worn next to bare skin.
Versatility is the key attribute of our new waterproof hiking jacket the ONYX. The weatherproof shell fabric is very breathable and supple yet tough enough to withstand chafing caused by a rucksack and thus suitable both for single day walks and multi-day hikes with a light pack. It can also be worn year-round by using the system zip to add an inner jacket, making the ONYX a waterproof and warm winter jacket.
This unicolour design, short hiking jacket provides reliable weather protection and has a simple, sporty style. It soft and supple yet extremely robust thanks to the use of waterproof, very breathable TEXAPORE SMOOTHLIGHT fabric. Features include five pockets, a fixed hood and a draw cord at the waist. And it looks so good you won’t want to use it just for hiking!
TEXAPORE performance levels
TEXAPORE is the generic term for a range of breathable, weatherproof shell
fabrics. To meet the varying demands placed on weatherproof shells by
different kinds of outdoor activities we have developed several different
versions of TEXAPORE with different performance levels. The performance
levels are differentiated by their ratings for waterproofness and breathability
and by their types of construction.
