We use various construction technologies for our TEXAPORE fabrics, from membranes and coatings to hybrid constructions and laminate linings. This enables us to address the specific levels of breathability and waterproofness that various outdoor activities require.
The weather protection layer is combined with a face (outer) fabric, which determines the additional characteristics, e.g. durability, texture and weight. As a rule, this is a 2 layer construction (face fabric + weather protection layer). In the 2.5 and 3 layer versions, a special layer or lining protects the weather protection layer; this is laminated to the weather protection layer and the face fabric.
Jackets and trousers with a double-layered construction are equipped with a loose lining. This means that they are slightly heavier and don’t pack down quite as small as triple-layered products. In double-layered TEXAPORE materials, the coating or membrane is permanently bound to the woven shell (support material).
Activities: day trips, weekend trips
In 2.5-layered TEXAPORE materials, the coating or membrane is permanently bound to the woven shell (support material) and is covered with an ultra-thin protective layer on the inside, meaning there is no need for a separate lining. 2.5-layered materials make extremely lightweight clothing with a very small pack size, but are also less hard-wearing than double-layered and triple-layered materials.
Activities: biking, trail running, etc.
The three components of triple-layered TEXAPORE materials are the shell, lining and the waterproof, breathable TEXAPORE membrane in between. All three layers are permanently bound to one another. Since the membrane is protected from either side by either a woven or a knitted material, this combination is very hard-wearing, yet still relatively lightweight and packs down small – perfect for trekking and mountain tours.
Activities: treks of several days, alpine hiking
TEXAPORE is also used in the form of a waterproof and breathable liner. The advantage here lies in the fact that only the seams of the liner itself need to be sealed, which allows greater freedom in the design and cut of the garment and gives the face fabric a more casual and flowing drape.

TEXAPORE/TEXAPORE O2+/TEXAPORE INFINITY: The materials in this group are classic “hardshell” materials: always waterproof, windproof and breathable. These laminates come with two, 2.5 or three layers and are made from a material with a microporous PU coating or a membrane.
TEXAPORE AIR: A special feature of these weatherproof materials: they are not only waterproof and windproof, but also air-permeable. A permanent exchange of air maintains breathability. This increases with a person’s movement, as activity strengthens the exchange of air. We call it dynamic breathability. The two-ply laminates consist of a layer of fabric and a microporous PU coating or membrane.
TEXAPORE SOFTSHELL/TEXAPORE SOTFSHELL O2+/TEXAPORE SOFTSHELL INFINITY: The triple-layered laminates in this category are softshell materials featuring seams sealed with special waterproof tape to make them completely waterproof. The laminates are made from a soft fabric and a microporous or imporous PU membrane. Aside from the usual weatherproof properties, these materials are also very stretchy and have a high wear comfort thanks to the soft interior often associated with functional shirts.
The use of two especially lightweight materials means that this is the lightest alpine jacket in the range and can be stowed away in the pack sack supplied. The main material is a highly waterproof and breathable 2.5-layer laminate. An especially waterproof triple-layer laminate increases the robustness at critical wear points (shoulders, sides). Alongside the very breathable material, the underarm zips provide additional ventilation to ensure excellent climate comfort.
This lightweight, robust jacket features a waterproof and highly breathable membrane. It provides comprehensive weather protection and excellent climate comfort, so you’re protected against rain and wind on hikes. The jacket is made from a very sturdy triple-layered material, so it stands up well to the extra wear and tear resulting from trekking and hiking rucksacks. If needed, the underarm zips can be opened for additional ventilation.
A breathable, waterproof and windproof travel jacket which looks like a long denim jacket. The jacket is equipped with four pockets, including an inside pocket with a headphone cable port. The waist is easy to adjust.
This waterproof softshell jacket has been designed for trekking with a heavy rucksack. It combines reliable protection from wind and rain with the excellent breathability and freedom of movement of softshell. The material features a triple-layered construction and exceptionally abrasion-resistant areas on the shoulders and hips, and the jacket is extremely robust and long-lasting. Thanks to the highly waterproof and breathable weatherproof material, the jacket can even withstand longer downpours. The increased breathability and the integrated underarm zips ensure high climate comfort.
This waterproof, lightweight softshell for alpine trips combines two of JACK WOLFSKIN’s latest technologies: reliable weather protection and the freedom of movement typical of softshells. The jacket is dynamically breathable, meaning the main material is air-permeable, allowing constant air circulation to enhance breathability. The more you move, the more air circulation there is, resulting in noticeably improved climate comfort. An especially waterproof material has been used for the shoulders and sides, ensuring waterproofness even when carrying a heavy rucksack. The pockets are set higher up, so that you can still access their contents when wearing a waist belt or a climbing harness. The integrated hood is large enough to accommodate a helmet.
This jacket is light, smooth and dynamically breathable. The constant airflow increases moisture evaporation transmission (breathability), which is further enhanced the more active you are. The outer fabric is made from a microfibre material, which contributes to the smooth feel and the low weight. - See more at: http://www.jack-wolfskin.com/men/apparel/jackets/waterproof-jackets/1104881-airrow-jacket-men.aspx#sthash.ZGILlPaM.dpuf
TEXAPORE performance levels
TEXAPORE is the generic term for a range of breathable, weatherproof shell fabrics. To meet the varying demands placed on weatherproof shells by different kinds of outdoor activities we have developed several different versions of TEXAPORE with different performance levels. The performance levels are differentiated by their ratings for waterproofness and breathability and by their types of construction.
